THE ROLE
Thrive Market is looking for a highly motivated and energetic Accounting Director to join our team. The candidate is responsible for maintaining timely, accurate financial records and performing other day-to-day activities and ad hoc projects on the accounting team. The position will assume ownership of a wide range of account reconciliations, financial closing activities, and other projects to support our financial close process. The candidate for the Director position must have an advanced understanding of financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow) and how they relate to one another. Candidates must also have working knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls. Reporting to the VP of Accounting, you will be responsible for the management and development of a highly motivated team of accountants within the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Drive month-end financial close process, ensuring timing compliance in accordance with deadlines, assist in continuing to shorten the close process, establish rigor for signoffs and documentation of close procedures for both preparers and reviewers
Lead all audit and quarterly review work with our external auditors
Provide accounting guidance to business leadership and finance team
Full ownership of accounting for banking (including debt, treasury management, cash reporting), fixed assets (including internally developed software), marketing expenses,leases, equity & stock compensation, month-end accruals for G&A expenses and other areas to be added over time
Lead effort to implement all new controls and controls enhancements required in areas of oversight to achieve SOX compliance, this will include, creation, documentation of, and review of new processes and procedures, working with NetSuite team to develop approval workflows and other system driven control processes as needed (chart of accounts maintenance, report changes, and others) and performing second level reviews of balance sheet reconciliations & other analysis
Review financial statements and footnote schedules
Other ad hoc projects as needed to support company growth and strategic initiatives
Additional areas of responsibility to added progressively over time
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree & CPA license (or equivalent)
6+ years of Big 4 audit/accounting experience (through at least manager)
8+ years progressive leadership experience
Hands-on experience implementing, using and evolving an ERP system (NetSuite preferred)
Experience in CPG industry and/or e-commerce is preferred
Strong understanding of process and the desire to manage and implement improvements
Proven thought leader & excellent manager/coach with a track record of high team engagement scores
