Semenya reclaims 5000m title

Caster Semenya, two-time Olympic 800m champion, retained the South African 5000m title in Pretoria on Thursday with her best time yet but was still far from the Olympic minimum.

Semenya has been battling World Athletics (formerly IAAF) for over a decade but has already lost a few appeals.om the mark required to go to Japan.

Semenya, who won gold medals in the 800-meter Olympics in London and Rio de Janeiro, will not be able to defend his title in Tokyo.

Semenya has a natural excess of male sex hormones and refuses any treatment to lower the testosterone level below the maximum threshold (5 nmol / L blood) defined by world Athletics to compete with women at distances ranging from 400 meters to miles (1609 meters).

Semenya has been battling World Athletics (formerly IAAF) for over a decade but has already lost a few appeals.

In August, the Swiss Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Court of Sports Arbitration (CAS) on behalf of "sports justice", thereby confirming the World Athletics regulation defining the maximum testosterone threshold.

On February 19, Semenya decided to take the case to the ECHR in Strasbourg, which did not specify when it would give a ruling.
